Megan Halsey's novel use of her family's archives gives a whole new meaning to the word "vintage". Megan creates dimensional collages using papers like old family letters and her great-grandmother's diary entries. She also includes buttons and rick-rack that once belonged to her grandmother. Flowers pressed from her grandfather's garden find their way into Megan's designs.

"I come from a family of "savers". No one ever threw anything out! I inherited the family archives and now use them in my work. The common everyday items are worthless to other people, but have value to me. They belonged to people I love."

"Working with my family's objects connects me to the people I have loved. This process creates intimacy in my art." Art buyers and customers alike, enjoy the connection Megan has to her unique working materials. "People are reminded of their own relatives while learning my story."

Megan transforms ordinary items are into beautiful designs. She repurposes the items and adds fresh themes and trend-savvy colors to produce her distinctive style. "I aim to bring something new and interesting to objects that are common or mundane."

Freedom of expression, and her love of color and pattern, brought Megan to licensing. "After working for nearly twenty years in the children's book business, I needed a new creative outlet. I always loved designing the decorative endpapers in the books but there were limitations. Now, I can unleash my love of color and pattern and not feel restricted by the parameters of a children's story."

Also original to Megan's work is the process she uses. "I rediscovered my love of sewing and found I enjoyed sewing with papers rather than fabrics. My paper collages are backed with a fabric canvas, then I hand-stitch the papers or sew them with my old sewing machine."

Megan's color palettes range from crisp and contemporary reds, oranges, and yellows, to soft and antique creams. Her themes include birthday, baby, dogs, winter holiday and eggs.

While creating new designs for licensing, Megan also tends to her first career- that of an award-winning children's book artist. Megan's editorial art has appeared in magazines and on book jackets.
